The Incubator provides senior students and young artists the experience of exhibiting their artwork in a public art space.

Students in year 11 and 12, as well as first year tertiary arts courses from Brisbane and the Moreton Bay Region are invited to submit their work for display in our annual exhibition.  We not only strive to promote and celebrate talented young artists, but also nurture the connections necessary for a thriving creative community. Prizes are awarded to those artists whose work shows skill, creativity and conceptual depth; however, the true reward is earned through participation.

After applications are submitted, artworks will be selected for an exhibition held at the Hands On Art substation gallery in Paddington.  These artworks will be in the competition to win the Incubator main prize, as well the People’s Choice.

People’s Choice is judged on the night of the opening and will be voted in by attendees. Traditionally, the winner receives an art gift pack, which has previously been donated by Oxlades and Art Shed Brisbane.

The main prize is a residency at Hands On Art artists’ studio, which resides on the top level of the substation. The selected artist will have access to the studio and exhibition space and will be able to work alongside and be mentored by experienced artists in the space. This is a great opportunity for a young artist wishing to gain experience in the art industry. The winning artist will also get the chance to exhibit their artworks after the residency in the Hands On Art gallery space in their very own solo exhibition.

Participation is free and applications open on 1 August.
