My first dress was an umbrella.

‘Imagination and inner creativity were my means of dealing with everyday reality in my childhood…. I was immersed in my own world, giddily traveling down the rabbit hole of creation on many occasions, exploring traditional techniques passed down through my family lineage while also exploring my “no-rules” methods.

Sharka obtained a Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design and a Masters Degree in Theatre Set and Costume Design in the Czech Republic, followed by a Masters Degree in Creative Industries in Australia.

Prior to her higher degree studies she completed a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and a Diploma in Special Education and Art Therapy, focused on working with people with special needs, older people, prisoners and youth.

She is passionate about incorporating Tai Chi / Qi Gong as part of her teaching and facilitation – promoting the balance of mental and physical wellbeing. She has also worked as a Community Coach and has completed training for delivering After School Care activities. In this role Sharka delivered lessons in Tai chi at several schools improving coordination, physical fitness and concentration in children. She has completed the Get Active Queensland Accreditation program in First Aid.

In her approach to community arts projects,  she likes to focus on understanding peoples’ individual needs, finding solutions, developing cooperative skills and integrating them with others and the wider community. In the Arts Sharka works with communities and schools delivering workshops in wearable art, textile techniques, jewellery, and small objects, art techniques – drawing, painting, mixed media.

Sharka’s commitment to communities and to honouring and empowering individuals equally has been evident in such projects as the Homesickness Project 2015 in Logan, establishing a textile initiative in Madagascar in 2017 working with local villagers and craftspeople after Cyclone Enowo, contributing to the Paddington community for the design of a Gobo based on the Paddington Water Tower for projection onto The Substation, and shortly, the UnMasked multimedia collaborative exhibition at QCA Grey Street Gallery in September 2020.

In these initiatives, her work has been supported by RADF, Councillor Grants, Arts Queensland, Metro Arts StART grant programme and Lord Mayor Community Fund GAB20.

Sharka has been working across mediums and genres in the Creative Industry for two decades on national and International scales, representing Queensland on numerous occasions ( DEBUT Melbourne  2011, MERCEDES BENZ Festivals in Brisbane and Prague 2011, 2013, HEAD ON New York 2015). She was awarded Outstanding Graduate in a Creative Industries (CI) QUT on the Alumni Honour Roll in 2015.
