Kids do Art offers a variety of programs throughout the week to provide children with opportunities to develop their own skills, expand their creativity, and to make new friends.  Every Kids Do Art program offers something different to suit your child.

Our children’s Handbuilding Ceramics workshops are designed to develop skills and techniques using the medium of ceramics whilst having fun! Participants will express their ideas through developing imaginative creations using clay whilst learning to understand the processes and practices required in hand building ceramics.

This workshop is for children aged 6 to 9 years old. There’s no assumed knowledge, suitable for new and previous workshop participants.

Looking for a ceramics class for older children? We’re taking expressions of interest and will commence a class for 9-12 year olds when we have enough interest. Email info@handsonart.org.au to put your name down.

About the workshop

Our classes stretch creativity and develop craft using the medium of earthenware and stoneware. No prior knowledge or experience with ceramics is required as we develop motor skills and focus whilst relaxing and having fun.

Participants will become familiar with the most common techniques of hand building ceramics such as coiling, pinching, slab building and imprinting design and become familiar with underglaze and glazing techniques.

The sessions allow tutors and participants the opportunity to share a creative space in which the shapes and objects chosen as reference models suit the group’s dynamic. Stimulus for workshops will vary from a ‘simple’ cereal bowl (coiling)  to a complex triceratops (pinching), and even a Taco Fish! (Slab). The sessions focus on the development of participants’ technique and practical skills without formal assessment.
